Are you a Rider, or do you want to Volunteer?

I want to Ride

Become an Aim RDA Rider

Riding is a unique experience for any person, but the benefits for RDA participants are difficult to replicate in any other context. The movement of a horse under saddle provides a unique physiotherapeutic experience: regular riding can contribute to improved coordination, balance, muscle tone, and core strength. For some physically disabled participants, this can be the difference between standing or walking independently or requiring mobility aids full-time. Regular riding can also have a life-changing effect on mental wellbeing, alongside developing communication, confidence, and other valuable soft skills. Most importantly, the benefits of riding are different for every participant: you can read more about what RDA has done for some of Aim RDA’s participants here (link to participant testimonials).

RDA is the only major UK charity which focuses on the therapeutic and health benefits of bringing people and horses together. For many participants, RDA sessions are the only way they are able to access sport and exercise in a way which is accessible, safe and fulfilling.

I want to Help

Volunteer with Aim RDA

Volunteers are the backbone of Aim RDA; without them, nothing we do would be possible. Whether you’re new to horses or have years of experience, there’s a place for you at Aim RDA.

Our group is run by experienced volunteers who manage both people and operations, making RDA a rewarding experience for all. We welcome volunteers to bring their existing skills, but we also provide training for most tasks. Volunteering with Aim RDA offers a unique opportunity to learn about horses at little or no cost, and no prior experience with horses or disabilities is necessary.

Opportunities for Riders

  • New Relationships: Meeting like-minded people who share the same passion and ambition as you.
  • Competitive Opportunities: RDA has both virtual and in person competition in a range of disciplines to suit everyone, no matter their skill level.
  • Social Events: Join us on day trips, meet-ups and evening events.

What Happens in a Lesson?

  • Session Length: Lessons last 30-40 minutes, with horses warmed up beforehand.
  • Personalized Coaching: Sessions are tailored to individual goals and needs, ensuring maximum benefit.
  • Small Group Lessons: Groups typically have no more than four riders, matched by needs and abilities.
  • Participant-Centered: Coaches maintain communication about personal goals, offering additional opportunities like competitions, clinics, and offsite visits.
  • Community: Join a supportive community with social events beyond riding.

Opportunities for Volunteers

  • RDA Session Support: Grooming and tacking up horses, assisting with stable management tasks, supporting participants during riding sessions, and caring for horses afterward.
  • Fundraising & Administration: Get involved behind the scenes in essential administrative duties or help raise funds to support our mission.
  • Horse Care & Yard Management: Help care for the horses and manage the yard outside of RDA sessions.

Additional Benefits

  • Opportunities to Connect: Visit other RDA groups, participate in RDA competitions, and enjoy social events with fellow volunteers.
  • Friendship & Community: Many of our founding members were friends before starting Aim RDA, and we strive to maintain a warm and welcoming community.
